B.Tech. – Textile Technology
The Indian textile industry is a global powerhouse and a critical pillar of the nation’s economy. Valued at over USD 140 billion, it contributes approximately 5% to India’s GDP and nearly 12% to the country’s total export earnings. With direct employment to over 35 million people, the sector encompasses traditional handlooms to advanced textile manufacturing units. India is the 6th largest exporter of textiles and apparel globally, and its organized mill sector ranks second largest in the world.
About The Program
The B.Tech. in Textile Technology at NITRA Technical Campus is a specialized undergraduate engineering program that equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the textile industry’s scientific, technological, and managerial aspects. This program is ideal for students aspiring to build a strong technical foundation in the field of textiles while developing industry-relevant skills to contribute to one of India’s largest employment-generating sectors.
The curriculum covers the entire textile manufacturing value chain—starting from raw material selection, fiber and yarn production, fabric formation (weaving, knitting, non-woven), textile chemical processing, and finishing, to testing and quality assurance. The program also emphasizes modern textile applications including technical textiles, smart textiles, and eco-friendly manufacturing processes. Practical training in NITRA’s state-of-the-art laboratories complements theoretical learning, ensuring hands-on industry exposure from the early semesters.
Alongside technological training, the program also focuses on developing management and leadership capabilities, preparing students to supervise and optimize production systems in mills, garment factories, and textile machinery units. Students are trained in industrial engineering concepts, supply chain management, and sustainability practices, making them capable of handling complex industrial operations and meeting global standards.
Graduates of this program are highly valued in both domestic and international textile sectors. They can find employment in areas such as production, quality control, R&D, process improvement, technical sales, and maintenance, or pursue higher studies and research in textile engineering. With the ever-expanding scope of technical and functional textiles, the B.Tech. in Textile Technology opens doors to exciting, innovation-driven career paths.
