Ragging is strictly prohibited at NITRA Technical Campus.

As per the UGC Regulations, 2009 [Under Section 26(1)(g) of the UGC Act, 1956], any form of ragging is a punishable offence. Students found guilty—either by directly participating, aiding, or passively supporting ragging—shall face strict disciplinary and legal action.

What Constitutes Ragging ?

Ragging encompasses a range of unacceptable behaviors and is considered a grave offence at NITRA Technical Campus. It includes, but is not limited to, verbal or physical harassment of freshers or students through teasing, rude behavior, or mocking. Acts of rowdy or disruptive behavior that cause annoyance, fear, or psychological and physical harm to others are also classified as ragging. Forcing students to perform acts that are demeaning, embarrassing, or psychologically harmful, and interfering with their academic activities, further constitute serious violations. Using juniors or freshers to complete assignments or carry out menial tasks, engaging in financial extortion, or pressuring them to spend money unwillingly are strictly prohibited. Physical abuse, including sexual or indecent behavior, inappropriate gestures, or threats to health, is treated with utmost seriousness. Additionally, verbal abuse, cyber abuse through emails or online posts, and any act of public or private humiliation are considered ragging. Any actions that undermine the mental health or self-confidence of a student fall under this category. Whether such behavior is committed openly or in secrecy, with or without sadistic intent, it is treated as a serious breach of conduct and will attract stringent disciplinary and legal consequences.

Disciplinary Action for Ragging

If found guilty of ragging, students may face one or more of the following punishments:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic activities.
  • Cancellation or withholding of scholarships, fellowships, or benefits.
  • Debarment from examinations, competitions, or official events.
  • Suspension or expulsion from hostel or institution.
  • Cancellation of admission or rustication for up to four semesters.
  • Expulsion from the institution and ban from admission to any other institute.
  • If the perpetrators are untraceable, collective punishment may be enforced.

In addition to institutional penalties, the offenders may also face legal proceedings under applicable criminal laws.
